Welcome to the Ruttenberg ​Marine ​Conservation Lab

​Cal Poly
San Luis Obispo, CA

Our research focuses on marine conservation and ecology. Our current projects include:
  1. The potential for offshore renewable energy production along the California central coast, and how we evaluate costs and benefits
  2. Factors controlling the decline and recovery of Pismo clams
  3. Development of new approaches in Aquaculture, including evaluating Pismo clams as a candidate species
  4. Nearshore fisheries, Marine Protected Areas, and the impacts of oceanography and marine heat waves
We are also wrapping up projects on:
  1. How parrotfish feeding and behavior impacts coral reef ecosystems
  2. Using artificial intelligence to improve monitoring in marine (and other) systems
